I came across an interesting article by Linda Bilmes and Joseph E. Stiglitz:

THE ECONOMIC COSTS OF THE IRAQ WAR: AN APPRAISAL THREE YEARS AFTER THE BEGINNING OF THE CONFLICT.

From the content:

  1. Budgetary Costs to the US Government
  2. Costs of the War to the US Economy: Adjustments to the budgetary estimates
  3. The Macro-economic effects of the War in Iraq

It contains some details about how much this ‘war on terrorism’ costs in the long term. Interesting, but it leaves you with a big WHY? in your head. Why spending that much money (and people) instead of investing in sustainable programs fighting poverty and hunger (both can also be understood as a ‘war on terror’).

Always the same question: why?
